Deep Context: This story of Luke 5:1-11 takes place near a big lake called the Lake of Gennesaret. Jesus was teaching a large crowd of people. He saw some fishermen cleaning their nets after working all night but not catching any fish. Jesus asked one fisherman, Simon Peter, to take his boat out a little into the water. Then Jesus sat in the boat and taught the people.
After Jesus finished teaching, He told Simon to put his nets into the water again to catch fish. Simon said they had worked hard all night and caught nothing, but he trusted Jesus and obeyed. When they let down the nets, they caught so many fish that their nets started to break! They called other fishermen to help, and both boats were so full they began to sink.
Simon Peter was amazed and felt unworthy to be near Jesus. Jesus told Simon not to be afraid and said from now on, he would catch people instead of fish. Simon, James, and John left everything and followed Jesus.
